Goat

The goat climbs where nothing else can, finding footing on bare rock. It is the creature of Capricorn, the sea-goat, and of Pan. The Golden Dawn ties it to the Devil card, where it stands for matter, desire, and the drive that pushes upward through hard terrain.

Uses

• Ambition and career climbing
• Persistence on hard ground
• Earthy vitality and desire
• Honoring Pan

Working with it

Call on the goat on a Saturday when facing a long climb. Set a stone from a hillside on your altar with a brown or black candle, and visualize the goat picking its way up the slope one sure step at a time. Ask for its sure-footedness, not its speed.
